Resurfacing means applying a resin bound layer over the existing surface rather than removing it. That is only viable when the base beneath is stable, level, and draining correctly. Essex clay ground can cause subtle movement over time, and Brentwood’s older housing stock means many tarmac and concrete bases have been down for decades. A surface inspection checks for cracking patterns, soft spots, and drainage falls before any overlay is considered.
Where the base passes inspection, the existing surface is cleaned, any cracks are filled and levelled, and a primer is applied to bond the resin layer. Aggregate is then mixed into UV-stable polyurethane resin and trowelled to a consistent depth. Edge restraints are checked or reinstated to contain the new surface. The result is a permeable, low-maintenance finish without the groundworks cost of a full replacement.
Where the base has failed, soft areas, significant cracking, or poor drainage falls, resurfacing is not the right call. Laying resin over a compromised base produces the same failure within months. In those cases, the assessment will confirm what groundworks are needed before a surface can be applied. That decision is made at survey stage, not assumed from a description or photograph.
