How It Works

  • Can resin be laid directly over an old tarmac driveway?

    Yes, if the tarmac is structurally sound and properly prepared. The surface is checked for cracks, loose areas, and movement before any overlay work begins. Tarmac that passes those checks can be overlaid without excavation.

  • Do you always have to remove the old tarmac first?

    Not always. Where the tarmac is still firm, well-compacted, and draining correctly, it can stay in place. If it has failed, soft patches, significant cracking, or poor drainage falls, removal is confirmed before any price is given.

  • Will cracks in the tarmac show through the new resin surface?

    They can if the base is moving or the cracks are left unrepaired. Small cracks are filled and levelled before the bonding layer is applied. Larger structural movement needs addressing first, the survey identifies this before any work is quoted.

  • What happens if I delay the conversion?

    Tarmac that is already cracking will continue to deteriorate. Wider cracks allow water ingress, which weakens the base further. A surface that could have been overlaid may eventually need full excavation, increasing the cost significantly.

  • Is converting to resin better than patching the tarmac?

    Patching addresses local damage but leaves the aged surface in place. A resin bound conversion gives a continuous permeable finish and resolves drainage issues at the same time. It is usually chosen when a complete visual upgrade is the goal.

  • Does a resin driveway over tarmac need planning permission?

    A permeable resin bound finish drains surface water through the layer itself, which means most front driveway conversions fall within SuDS-compliant permitted development and do not require a planning application.
