How It Works

  • Can resin-bound surfacing be used on outdoor steps?

    Yes, when the base is sound and properly prepared. The existing steps need to be stable, level enough, and detailed correctly at the edges. A survey confirms whether the current surface is suitable or needs repair work first.

  • Are resin steps slippery when wet?

    A correctly specified resin bound surface uses a fine aggregate, typically 1-3mm, that produces a close-textured tread. This grips underfoot in wet conditions. The aggregate size and blend are chosen at survey stage with outdoor use in mind.

  • Do the old steps need to be removed first?

    Not always. If the existing steps are structurally sound, resin can be applied as an overlay after preparation. Badly cracked, hollow, or moving steps may need repair or rebuilding before the resin layer can be fitted properly.

  • What happens if I delay resurfacing worn or slippery steps?

    A worn, smooth surface becomes more hazardous in wet weather. Cracks also allow water to penetrate the base, which accelerates deterioration and can mean more extensive repair work, and higher cost, by the time resurfacing is carried out.

  • Can the steps be matched to an existing resin driveway or path?

    Yes. The aggregate blend and colour are selected at survey stage to complement or match an adjacent resin surface. Many Brentwood properties with resin driveways choose this approach to give the whole front entrance a consistent finish.
